Day 83. Cairo. 11.5.24

Our last day in Cairo has been our BEST day in Cairo.  Our tour guide offered us a free tour of the pyramids, we just had to pay the entrance fee (and tip the driver and the guide).

It was very hot, dusty and dry. The pyramids and sphinx were way bigger than I imagined. We chose not to go into the big pyramid. It was an extra cost and in some places it was small spaces. We weren't well enough for that and it wasn't something I'd planned on doing anyway.  I was just happy to look.

Be warned **there will be a lot of photos today**

Resort lobby.

Khufu, the great pyramid, 481 feet high.

Khafre, 471 feet high.

The red circle is the original entrance to the pyramid. The red dot is the current entrance.
It amazes me how they got all these stones up there.
There were camels, donkeys and horses waiting (read harassing) to take people for a ride. We didn't participate.

The city in the horizon.
So many stones.
Some guy offered to take a picture for me as I was attempting a selfie. I'm supposed to be holding the pyramid in my fingertips.  Then he demanded money.

Menkarue, the smaller pyramid,  213 feet.

The middle pyramid is actually taller, the front one is built on higher ground.
The tiny red dot in the middle is Mark.
The 'pick axe' marks.
Looks like the pyramid is deteriorating.

The third corner of the pyramid.
We circumnavigated the pyramid.
It's huge.

Back to the beginning of the pyramid.
A couple of quick selfies, just because I was super excited 😁

Next we went to the panoramic area.

We're off to see the sphinx.

Water from the Nile river floods this waterway annually.

Granite blocks, no cement. They are linked together by a rounded 'corner' and slightly offset.
That Disney back pack has certainly done some kms.

The front feet are huge.

One last look back at the pyramids from the sphinx.
Driving through Cairo.

Today we've walked 5kms. We aren't 100% but we're both feeling much better than a week ago.

Today's temperature range was 21-31°

Day 90. Home. 18.5.24

A very cruisy flight. Arrived back in Brisbane half hour early.  I caught up on some movies and we both managed a couple of hours snoozing. ...
