Day 55. London. 13.4.24

Our overnight flight went very well. 1000% smoother than the flight to New Jersey. It was a 6.5 hr flight. We both managed to get a bit of sleep and had good meals.

I was getting a sense of LAX deja vu, with our driver not being there when we finally collected our luggage, it took about 80 minutes.  After a couple of phone calls we located him with coffee in hand. Presumably he was getting it while I was pacing up and down searching for him 🤦‍♀️

We had a 40 min drive to our hotel, The Wellington.  As we were there before 9am we stored our cases and went exploring on foot.

St Stephens

Nice clean wide streets.

Buckingham Palace.

So many planes criss crossing the sky.

Went for a walk around Green Park.

War memorial area.

NZ memorial.

Wellington

A unique Australian memorial.

Battle names etched into stone.

Queen Victoria Monument opposite the palace.

Art Gallery was sold out so we had a quick look in the gift shop.

Hanging curtain of lights.
Heading back to the hotel to wait in the lobby as Mark has a blister developing and we found a Cathedral to check out. It was huge and stunning.
Abbey Cathedral.

The Chief Pastors of the Catholic Church in England showing their Communion with Apostolic See of Rome. Dating back to yr 314
Oops, I read this on the way out, no phones, cameras or videos.

Got distracted again by a sign

We have now 😁
Small bricks

St Stephens on Rochester Row, circa 1890.

The top floor of these buildings were destroyed by the enemy attack in 1994 and were rebuilt in 1955. You can see the difference in the bricks.
Our view of The Mark hotel out our bedroom window.

After a nap, bathing and clothes washing we headed out to find a pub that served traditional English pub meals.
Fish n chips and steak and ale pie ✅

We thought we'd take the long way home and stumbled upon Westminster Abbey,  Parliament House,  Big Ben and heaps more.

I think this is the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Abbey Church of Westminster, consecrated in 1065. I love the old Gothic buildings.

Parliament House.

Thames River.

We are extremely happy with the location of our hotel thanks to Aspire Travel Agents in Maryborough.
Today we walked 13kms. The temperature got to 21°

Day 90. Home. 18.5.24

A very cruisy flight. Arrived back in Brisbane half hour early.  I caught up on some movies and we both managed a couple of hours snoozing. ...
