Day 36. Oshkosh, Nebraska. 25.3.24

WOWSERS, -9° feels like -19.

Although the above pic says no snow I think they need to go to specsavers!

Out our window.

Breakfast room window.

The road south is open so we may take that option later today.  There is still a blizzard warning heading east to Lincoln so we'll give that a miss.

We've driven 36miles south to Bridgeport. The road has been dry so far with a couple of bery light flurries of snow. It is -6° and really blowy.

After a warming coffee we drove to the Courthouse and Jail rock. We attempted to climb to the top but when the wind almost blew me over I gave up, Mark already given up a minute or 2 before me.

A few houses on the way out to the rocks.

Our little guinea pig waiting in the cold.
We made a decision to try our luck and head eastish knowing at the first sign of an icy road we would turn back to Bridgeport.
Ethanol plant on the outskirts of Bridgeport.
Little town of Lisco.
The only bit of snowy road was a couple of miles long.
We made it to Oshkosh, Nebraska, without any dramas.

12.24pm
And it's only 23°f/-5°c
Our choice of venue for lunch. My rib fillet steak was little under cooked for me but very tender Nebraska beef. Mark opted for the slow cooked brisket and said it also was very tender.
We've booked in to a motel in Oshkosh for the night.  Our choices were very limited but it's quite a decent size room.
The view from our room.  Pathway was very slippery outside the office and I nearly went over.

The road to Lincoln is closed until the morning at this stage.

Today we have travelled 91 miles/146 kms.

After a rest and a defrosting I went for a solo walk around the block. Glad I didn't check the weather forecast first.

Popped in to get milk and got a hug from the Easter bunny.

The tiniest bit of blue sky trying to break through.
I have jeans under my track pants and a beanie under my hood as well as 3 layers under my coat!

  1. You may remember I did say the North American winter can be tough and a Southern route may be good. Now you know why people head to Phoenix for the winter. It is raining at home every day. Hope all goes well on your continuing adventure.

Day 90. Home. 18.5.24

A very cruisy flight. Arrived back in Brisbane half hour early.  I caught up on some movies and we both managed a couple of hours snoozing. ...
